Strong winds and rains have shutdown pilotage operations outside the harbour. Zim Texas appears to have anchored in the outer anchorage, and tankers Heather Knudsen and Serifos are circling. (Serifos had been at anchor after offloading at Tufts Cove over the weekend) Fusion is also out there.
The Atlantic Pilotage Authorities vessel “Atlantic Pilot” is currently tied up at the APA Wharf in Halifax. A simalar design to Chubucto Pilot, Atlantic Pilot was built by A.F. Theriault & Sons Ltd, in Meteghan River, NS. She was christened in Halifax on November 15th, 2007, and is normally staioned
Zim Barcelona is currently anchored off pier42 mostly empty. Zim Rio Grande is currently in the outer anchorages. Zim Barcelona departed pier 41 earlier but was unable to sail due to high seas and wind shutting down pilotage operations. Zim rio grande is unable to enter for the same reason.
Captain A.G. Soppitt was a pilot and recently retired president of the St John NB Port Authority. APA’s new Pilot boat, Built at AECON Fabco in Lunenburg, is named after him. After trials, and a dedication ceremony, she will be stationed in St John NB.
Pilotage ops resumed this morning, as weather improved. Kiel Express and Atlantic Cartier, tied up at fairview, Don Juan left autoport, sanderling tied up, and Kometic Anchored for bunkers (above).
