This was her first stop in Canada.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.halifaxshippingnews.ca\/2012\/10\/new-ships-for-ocenex-and-fednav.html\">She was announced <\/a>at the same time as Oceanex announced the construction of the&nbsp;Connaigra.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;The MV <i>Nunavik<\/i>. Built at <span>JMU&#8217;s<\/span> Tsu Shipyard in <span>Japan<\/span>, the ship will be used to export<br \/>\n the concentrates produced at the Canadian Royalties owned Nunavik<br \/>\n Nickel mine at Deception Bay in northern <span>Quebec<\/span>. The vessel will also<br \/>\n supply the mine with equipment and fuel, year round.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\nRated Polar Class 4, the <i>Nunavik<\/i> is the most powerful bulk-carrying icebreaker in the world. It is<br \/>\n similar in design to the <i>Umiak I<\/i>, the Fednav ship servicing Vale&#8217;s Voisey&#8217;s Bay operation in <span>Northern<br \/>\n Labrador<\/span>. The <i>Nunavik<\/i> will sail unescorted in Arctic regions and will operate in the extreme<br \/>\n winter conditions of the Canadian Arctic. It is capable of maintaining<br \/>\n continuous progress of 3 knots in 1.5 m of ice.\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\nThe vessel was designed by Fednav and <span>JMU<\/span>, and will sail between<br \/>\n Deception Bay and <span>Northern Europe<\/span> on a year-round basis. The engine<br \/>\n produces 29,600 hp, three times the power of a conventional bulk<br \/>\n carrier of the same size.
