{"id":608,"date":"2015-03-25T16:25:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T16:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rescuenotes.ca\/?p=608"},"modified":"2015-03-25T16:25:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-25T16:25:00","slug":"dartmouth-cg-base-sold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rescuenotes.ca\/?p=608","title":{"rendered":"Dartmouth CG Base Sold."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEhd5LgJs4c0r7Rr1ecXQWq2KfL7UtRdnCdl6Zz1fFUSzcOr5lxF0D9OgX2EmRcXvQWSut_MDf6ZUSRzr2_XTiJLe_tGnehcOKAiQOib_CngS_IHnjTm7qT67x4uSGjR_3tdol6XOqIpThbn\/s1600\/dartmouthCG.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEhd5LgJs4c0r7Rr1ecXQWq2KfL7UtRdnCdl6Zz1fFUSzcOr5lxF0D9OgX2EmRcXvQWSut_MDf6ZUSRzr2_XTiJLe_tGnehcOKAiQOib_CngS_IHnjTm7qT67x4uSGjR_3tdol6XOqIpThbn\/s1600\/dartmouthCG.jpg\" height=\"102\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\n&nbsp;Finance minister just announced that Waterfront Development has purchased the Dartmouth Coast Guard Base as the location for an Ocean Technology Hub.<\/p>\n<p>Update: Here is the Press Release<br \/>\nThe former Canadian Coast Guard land on the Dartmouth waterfront will be home to an ocean innovation centre.<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\n Waterfront Development Corporation has received approval from the<br \/>\nprovincial government to purchase the land from the federal government. <\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\n corporation will now work with the provincial government, industry and<br \/>\npost-secondary schools to develop the centre, where ocean technology<br \/>\nresearch and private sector marine businesses can work together to drive<br \/>\n more investment, commercialization, exports and growth.<\/p>\n<p>The annual global market value for ocean-related goods and services is $3 trillion.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nova<br \/>\n Scotia is home to some of the world&#8217;s best ocean technology companies,&#8221;<br \/>\n said Jim Hanlon, CEO of the Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise.<br \/>\n&#8220;Providing this new facility as a space for collaboration and waterfront<br \/>\n testing will allow those companies to more effectively innovate and<br \/>\ncompete globally. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having this as shared space brings even more<br \/>\nvalue to industry and to the students who will create the next<br \/>\ngeneration of ocean industries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 companies make up<br \/>\nNova Scotia&#8217;s ocean science and technology sector. Activity includes<br \/>\nscience, fisheries, aquaculture, offshore oil and gas, shipbuilding and<br \/>\nmaritime security.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ocean is our competitive advantage,&#8221;<br \/>\nsaid Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson.<br \/>\n&#8220;Acquiring the land is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, preserving a<br \/>\nkey site that will create new markets and opportunities for people in<br \/>\nNova Scotia&#8217;s marine and ocean-related sectors.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Located at 27 Parker St., the property includes buildings, waterfront and over 850 metres of wharf and two 100 metre piers. <\/p>\n<p>The property is a 9.5-acre site plus water lot. The purchase price is $6.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Waterfront<br \/>\n property holds great strategic value for the province and our economy,&#8221;<br \/>\n said Colin MacLean, president and CEO, Waterfront Development<br \/>\nCorporation. &#8220;This purchase creates an exciting opportunity to cluster<br \/>\nocean technology companies with Nova Scotia&#8217;s world-class marine<br \/>\nresearch programs, enabling direct ocean access to support their work.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>An ocean innovation action team is in place to guide the vision and strategic direction for the ocean innovation centre. <\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\n centre supports OneNS goals linked to business startups, exports from<br \/>\ngrowth-oriented companies, and research and development partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Nova<br \/>\n Scotia is recognized internationally for ocean research done by<br \/>\nDalhousie University, Nova Scotia Community College, Bedford Institute<br \/>\nof Oceanography, Royal Canadian Navy, and a growing sector of export<br \/>\noriented ocean technology companies. <\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Coast Guard now operates from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;Finance minister just announced that Waterfront Development has purchased the Dartmouth Coast Guard Base as the location for an Ocean Technology Hub.
