HMS Protector is one of the Royal Navy&#8217;s Ice Patrol and Survey Vessels,<br \/>\nand was commisioned into the Royal Navy on June 23 2011. She is the Ex<br \/>\nPolarbj\u00f8rn an is on a 3 year charter to replace the HMS Endurance which<br \/>\nwas almost lost in a flooding accident in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>HMS Endurance provided a sovereign presence in polar waters, performed<br \/>\nhydrographic surveys and supported the British Antarctic Survey. These<br \/>\nTasks are now assigned to HMS Protector.
