\n2012 was an interesting year. 180000 people read halifaxshippingnews.ca in 2012 – more then ever before, and growth was steadly climbing from month to month. We also had the 320 posts this year – almost one a day, and picked up Telonix<\/a> as our first sponsor.<\/p>\n

In Ship Building news, The APA recived its new Pilot Boat<\/a>. The First 3 Hero Class<\/a> midshore patrol vessels were launched for the Coast Guard. HRM Decided to build a 4th Ferry<\/a>, and the 3 existing ones got AIS<\/a>. The Bluenose<\/a> was launched, and Oceanex, Fedanav,<\/a> and ACL<\/a> all ordered new ships.<\/p>\n

Halifax saw a variety of interesting Visiting naval  Ships, including USCG Dependable<\/a>, Tahoma<\/a>, Juniper<\/a>, Reliance<\/a> and Spencer<\/a>; Royal Navy HMS Scott<\/a>, HMS Protecto<\/a>r, US Navy ships USS Laboon<\/a>, USS Fort Worth<\/a>, USS De Wert and USS Hurricane<\/a>;<\/span> Plan Zenghe<\/a>, HNoMS Thor Heyerdahl<\/a>, The German vessels<\/a> FGS Emden, FGS Hessen, FGS Frankfurt am Main; HDMS Esbern Snare<\/a>; USNS Grapple<\/a>; <\/span>French Naval Tug Malabar<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Breakdowns – Atlantic Cartier<\/a> with engine troubles, Renate Shulte<\/a> with a hole in her bow from a loose anchor, Stuttgart Express<\/a> with a bunker leak.<\/p>\n

We commemorated the Titanic 100th anniversary<\/a>, tall ships<\/a>, afl went bankrupt and the ship was sold<\/a> by the court.
\nPier 9 expansion<\/a> was well under way and the  Pier 42 Expansion was completed; first disney cruise<\/a>; and the Scotia Dock II<\/a> sold for scrap.<\/p>\n
