Bellow is how they got to that point.<\/p>\n<p>A significant milestone has been reached in the plan<br \/>\nto commemorate the remarkable contribution by Canada in the Battle of<br \/>\nthe Atlantic when a jury, established to evaluate design proposals for<br \/>\nthe new Halifax waterfront landmark, compiled its short list.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals were submitted from 10 consortia representing<br \/>\nmore than 100 companies from Canada, the USA and Europe. The selected<br \/>\ndesign teams ( in alphabetical order) on the short list are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Barrie<br \/>\nand Langille with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtarch.com\/\">Moriyama &amp; Teshima<\/a>;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fbm.ns.ca\/Default.aspx\">Fowler Bauld Mitchell<\/a> in<br \/>\nassociation with <a href=\"http:\/\/shl.dk\/eng\/#\/home\/\">Schmidt Hammer Larsen<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stantec.com\/\">Stantec Architecture<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whwarchitects.com\/\">WHW Architects<\/a><br \/>\nwith Diamond Schmitt;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycum.com\/\">William Nycum Associates<\/a> in collaboration<br \/>\nwith <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithgroupjjr.com\/\">Smith Group JJR<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nThose five move to the second stage of the selection<br \/>\nprocess which requires a presentation of preliminary design ideas in<br \/>\nearly June.<\/p>\n<p>Battle of Atlantic Place, an initiative of the Canadian<br \/>\nNaval Memorial Trust, will be the new home for HMCS Sackville, the last<br \/>\nremaining Corvette &#8211; the ships critical to victory in the Atlantic.<br \/>\nTed Kelly, a director on the Trust\u2019s Board, said <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Sackville<\/span><br \/>\nis a fitting symbol of the extraordinary effort by hundreds of thousands<br \/>\nof Canadians, who \u201ccame from what was largely an agrarian society<br \/>\nto develop a capability to engage in a war at sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Battle of Atlantic Place will be more than home to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Sackville<\/span>.<br \/>\nThe facility will provide a memorial to more than 4,000 people who gave<br \/>\ntheir lives in the conflict and have no known grave.&nbsp; Perhaps most<br \/>\nimportantly, Mr. Kelly said, \u201cit is intended that the story of amazing<br \/>\nachievement of that generation of Canadians will be told in a manner<br \/>\nsuch that future generations know of the struggle and sacrifice of their<br \/>\nforebears in the accomplishments that shaped the character of their<br \/>\ncountry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Members of the evaluating jury are drawn from across<br \/>\nCanada.&nbsp; They are: Andrew Amos, engineer, senior partner in the<br \/>\nfirm of Catalyst Engineering Consultants and Project Manager; Paul Merrick,<br \/>\ninternationally renowned architect and founding principal of Merrick<br \/>\nArchitects Ltd. of Vancouver and Victoria; Randy Mosher, quantity surveyor<br \/>\nand cost consultant based in Moncton; Jamie MacLellan, public art consultant,<br \/>\nHalifax; Guy Larocque, engineer, who served as director of facilities<br \/>\nat the Canadian War Museum; and  Ted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/null\" name=\"0.1__GoBack\"><\/a>Kelly, a former<br \/>\nnaval Captain, who heads the Battle of Atlantic Place project team.<\/p>\n<p>The federal, Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipal<br \/>\ngovernments, along with several corporations and individuals have made<br \/>\ncontributions towards the development of a design concept for Battle<br \/>\nof Atlantic Place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today at 10am, HMCS Sackville made her way to Sackville landing for the summer season.
