Wet Check
Stand pipes with exterior hookups can be prone to issues – holes, failers, faulty check valves or bad fire pumps. a wet check can test the connection. Once the pump is connected, have the operator charge the line then close the gate. note the static pressure now in the standpipe. does that stay, or does it decrease. If it Decreases, you are loosing water somewhere, and need to investigate further. the Fire pump could be inop, and not providing enough pressure to keep the flapper valve closed. if the pressure stays steady, things are either fine, or the pipe is blocked.
Improvised Connections to Standpipes
If a Siamease connection doesnt work, you can connect to the first floor outlet.
PRDs/PRVs
PRDs are Pressure reducing devices. they will be installed when outlet pressures will be >680kpa <1225kpa. these are removable, and are typically a Orrifce plate, A limiting clip or Pin, or something Mecanchnaly adjustable.
680kpa < PRD < 1225kpa< PRV
Pressure reducing valves are installed when pressures will be >1225kpa. They are factory preset, Field Adjustable, Fire ground adjustable, or a PRV Station
